The luxury mixed use development will offer ultra exclusive hotel suites, branded residences and a casino.

The foundation stone was laid on Friday, March 27, in Thamel, Kathmandu’s central tourist district, on a nine-ropani (approximately 4,578 square metres) plot near Darbar Marg.

The project is being developed by CG Hospitality Global, the hospitality subsidiary of Chaudhary Group, alongside a consortium of local investors: Rabindra Bhakta Shrestha of IJ Group, Saurav Sharma of Sharma & Company, and entrepreneurs Amrit Shakya and Sanchit Shrestha.

Ritz-Carlton Kathmandu round breaking was held on Friday, 27th March 2026, in the heart of the capital’s tourism hub, Thamel. The project will feature 150 keys ultra luxury hotel and branded residences, commercial complex and casino.

The mixed use luxury development will comprise a 150-room ultra-luxury hotel, Ritz-Carlton branded residences, a commercial complex, and a casino.

Incredibly the developer claims that the projected room rates are expected to exceed $1,000 per night.

Rahul Chaudhary, Managing Director and CEO of CG Hospitality Global, described the project as both a commercial and civic undertaking. “The launch of The Ritz-Carlton in Kathmandu underscores Chaudhary Group’s commitment to elevating Nepal’s tourism sector to a world-class standard. It reflects our confidence in the new government under Prime Minister Balen Shah and our ambition to contribute to job creation, high-quality tourism, and broader economic growth.”

The Kathmandu property will be its first in Nepal, extending Marriott International’s footprint into a market that has historically attracted adventure tourism but has lacked internationally branded ultra-luxury accommodation.

CG Hospitality Global currently manages a portfolio of more than 230 hotels and resorts across 130 destinations in 12 countries, with over 15,000 rooms. The Kathmandu project continues the group’s strategy of pairing international brand partnerships with investments in emerging markets.

Information remains limited and no official press release has come from The Ritz-Carlton or Marriott International at the time of publishing.
